  • Legal Aid ACT may be able to provide limited duty assistance in relation to compensation, criminal injuries or accidents, but cannot assist with personal injury compensation litigation.
  • Legal representation may be available for people who qualify for legal assistance in relation to NDIS or Victims of Crime. Phone 6243 3411 for further information. Legal Aid application forms are available in the Legal Aid office or at any of the Duty Lawyer services. They are not available online.
  • Call the Legal Aid ACT Helpline on 1300 654 314 to discuss or make a booking for a 30 minute consultation;

Medical help for injuries or accidents

  • Call 000 in an emergency;
  • The ACT Health Community Health Intake (CHI) service can assist you to find a wide range of community based health services. You can call CHI on (02) 5124 9977 between 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, 8am to 3:30pm Wednesdays (excluding public holidays).

Law Society of the ACT

  • Some private law firms in Canberra assist with personal injury compensation, including on a “deferred fee” basis (this means you may not have to pay unless you are successful in your legal matter). For a referral to a personal injury law firm, call the Law Society of the ACT on 6274 0300.

Victim Support

  • Victim Support and the Victims of Crime Commission assists people who have been affected by crime in the ACT. Financial assistance and other support may be available to people who have suffered criminal injuries or have been affected by crime. You can contact Victim Support by calling 1800 8222 72 or (02) 6205 2066, online using the Human Rights Commission contact us form, or at their office on Level 1, 5 Constitution Avenue Canberra City, ACT.
