Fire and smoke

If smoke from wood heaters, garden incinerators or barbecues is causing a problem, a person can complain to their local Council or Shire.

It is against the law to light a fire on any day that is declared an extreme fire danger day by the Bureau of Meteorology.
An extreme fire danger day bans barbecues and cooking outside, using fire or burning garden clippings in anything except a proper incinerator.
Any breaches should be reported to the police or the local Council or Shire.

Some local Councils or Shires have a total ban on backyard burning of waste. Check with the relevant local government for details.
